The doctor just came in to talk with us. B is all closed up and they are getting ready to move him to recovery. They said it should be about an hour before I can head in to see him.
There was little bleeding in comparison which was a really good thing. The doctor was very surprised at how straightforward the surgery was considering it was a second transplant. We asked about size and age of liver. It was a young liver which is really good. They said size was a bit big for B but the doctor joked they used a 'sterile shoehorn' and got it in!
They also said they reversed the colon surgery. Of course they are not sure that everything is in and operating well and working the way it is supposed to, but time will give us all those answers.
There are still plenty of hurdles to get him recovered and back to 100%, but what a miracle today was. While we'll still have struggles, I'd have to say the worst is behind us for now!
I'm excited about finally seeing B after many, many long hours. Today was such a trying day, but there was never a second that I didn't feel so overwhelmingly loved, supported, and cared for!
Thank you to our family and friends who were able to stop by and share their love. Your presence means more than you'll ever know. And thank you to our friends and family who supported us from afar with your thoughts, prayers and love.
We cherish each and every one of you, and look forward to making many, many more memorable moments with each of you!
