SERIOUSLY!?!?!?!

What a day....

So every time a doctor comes in, there is a new plan on the horizon.  Last we heard there is no way they can do the surgery today with having the transplant going on, even with B's very high fever.  We've been told that someone will come talk to us with a new plan once they get a chance.  They've started him on a couple different courses of antibiotics to try and target the infection, and they've done some blood cultures to try and figure out what is going on.

We also got another strange visit from the transplant team.  It appears that there's some test that they run on organs to determine that they are free from disease.  The way they explained it, one of the tests is 'flawed', and it's already been reported to the CDC.  What they've just told us is that they've run samples from our donor 4 different times.  Two have come back negative and two positive, so they really have no idea if this person was infected.

Luckily it's something very treatable, so they are going to give B a shot of penicillin just to be safe.  I am sitting here thinking...seriously?  I think as silly as it sounds, we might have needed that to lighten the mood.  When they told us this, me, B, mom and grandma just looked at each other and laughed.  Like one of those "are you kidding me?" moments?

So there it stands.  Surgery likely tomorrow unless we get bumped by another transplant.  A shot of penicillin 'just in case', and antibiotics to try and run this infection out of B's system.

Who knows what else this day has in store for us.  All I can say is that I pray B's fever goes away and we can get him healthy soon.  I'm doing okay right this second, but I've been having a pretty rough day.  I feel very tired; emotionally, mentally, and physically.  I know things could be worse, but I'm having a difficult time making sense of all the challenges put in our path.  I understand that we grow, learn, and become more empathetic through our experiences.  But I also feel like B and I have had plenty of opportunity for growth, learning and compassion.

I know you're all sending your thoughts and prayers.  Keep them coming.  It's been a rough day, and we need them to help keep us strong and ready for surgery tomorrow.

Love M
