He's #1

Hi friends!

So I always knew my husband was #1, but today it's been confirmed!  We were told that B was the first transplant of 2009 here at TGH!  He's always got to be making some kind of record, doesn't he?

B is having another great day today.  We've had many doctors come and visit today and all have commented on how amazingly well he is doing and looking.  We've just had a doctor comment "I wish all of my patients looked as good as you do"!

Although they traditionally keep liver transplants in ICU for 3 nights, they plan to move B today as soon as they have a free bed on the floor.  He continues the breathing exercises and continues to improve.  Up until today he's not had any nourishment, but today they've given him some juice and he seems to be tolerating it very well.  We'll get him up and moving about today as he's still not been up from bed.  Likely he'll be sitting in a chair here in ICU, and then some walking on the transplant floor.  He is not experiencing much pain around the incision, but is having a bit of back pain.  That seems to be stemming from the fact that our active guy has been confined to a bed for days!

Other than that, not much more to report.  He looks good, is in great spirits, and it continuing to relax in an effort to heal his body!  He too is shocked at how well he is recovering.  He said to me this morning "Do you see how high I got the breathing exercises?".  As soon as he said that we both smiled and looked up.  B commented that he prayed for a speedy recovery, but this was more than he could have expected.  We've still got a long way to go, and a lot left to do, but we're making good, solid progress.

I will likely be giving less frequent updates, but they'll be coming as soon as I have anything to update!   I know many of you have asked me about sleep and I'm happy to report that I didn't get up until about noon today.  I would say I likely got a solid 5 hours and I feel like a new woman!

We continue to give thanks.  Thanks to the Lord, thanks to our huge support system of family and friends, thanks to the doctors, and the donor family.  We are amazed, we are thrilled, we are overwhelmed, we are humbled.  Thank you, thank you!

Thanks so much for all the updates Melissa. It is so nice to be able to know exactly what is going on with you. I guess I can slow down on the texts now, huh? See you on Wed! Gina xoxo

I can't tell you how thrilled I am! I have been praying regularly for Brian and about jumped out of my skin when Laura Long called Saturday and told me about the liver! So glad for the updates via the blogsite and through your many loving friends! Keep up the great work B & M - hmm...that didn't sound right.
