Surfs Up...Sort Of

If the waves won't come to you, make your own.

At least that is what we tried.  After spending too much time sitting on top of a board waiting for that perfect wave, and then having to compete with a dozen other people to catch it, we tried to find an alternative.

Enter Wake Surfing.

The basic concept is a cross between surfing and wake boarding.  Using a 6 foot surf board and a short tow tope, I attempted to ride the wake that our boat puts out after throwing the rope back into the boat.  Attempted is the key word in the previous sentence.

I was able to get up fine.  I was able to ride on the board fine.  The problem myself, and every one else who tried it ran into was that our boat just doesn't put out a big enough wake, yet.

The water is just now starting to turn warm enough to stay in for an extended amount of time, which makes today the first of many more tries at mastering wake surfing.

Below are a few screen shots from the video we took.
One good.  One not so good.

Note:    Yes, it is true that this past summer my wife did wake surf on the wake of another boat.  She rode the wake for several minutes, and yes, she drank 2 beers while doing it.  I have a lot to live up to.

I am unimpressed. After watching your talented wife open and chug two beers, all while wake surfing and being videotaped, well.... you've got your work cut out for you!
