The message at our church service today focused on the healing power of God. This is something that we have experienced several times in our lives, so we were asked to take part in the service. Our part included an eight minute prerecorded video, followed by a short interview with the pastor.
The service concluded by giving everyone in the auditorium an opportunity to take part in the same healing prayer service that we had back in November. With my wife's surgery slowly creeping up on us, we also took part in a prayer session with the church Elders. Many people from our small group were there with us, as well as other friends. Although our situations are very different, I hope she was able to experience the same healing power that I did.
We were not alone in taking place in this ceremony. After both services, lines formed at the front of the church for others to join with the Elders and to pray and experience healing. I hope that each and every one of them was too able to experience the same feeling that I have.
When sharing our latest medical setback with friends and family over the years, we have heard a wide variety of words of encouragement. One of the common phrases we have heard is "Everything happens for a reason." We have heard it so many times, that after awhile it has lost some of it's meaning.
Today after one of the services, a gentlemen I did not know came up to me, shook my hand, and said thank you. He told me that hearing our story today was exactly what he needed, and without it, he may not have gone up to join the elders. But he did hear it, and he did go up.
As he walked away, that saying, "Everything Happens For a Reason", popped back into my mind. Maybe there is something to it after all.
