If the phone doesn't ring, it's the doctor

I would like to think that this blog has done a pretty good job of documenting my time while waiting for a liver transplant, and the recovery afterwards.  It has swung from deep thoughtful posts, to completely random and funny moments.  There have been some twists and turns along the way, but I have tried to stay true to documenting my life as a 2 time liver transplant survivor.  There is now potential for this blog to take a drastic turn.  Let me explain.

I was in Orlando today for a conference, and while on break, I got a call from my wife.  She had an ultrasound done on Monday, and the doctor was calling with the results.  Only the nurse wouldn't give her the results over the phone.  All they would do is set up an appointment with the doctor for next Thursday.  Oh, and did I mention that this was her oncologist.  Let me back up a little bit.

My wife is a two time cancer survivor.  The first time was when she was a senior in High School.  It was a Yoke Sac Tumor in her stomach.  She had to have multiple rounds of chemotherapy, along with two abdominal surgeries.

Toward the end of 2005, she was diagnosed with cancer again.  This time it was a tumor on one of her ovaries.  Actually it was skin cancer in a tumor, on one of her ovaries.  She is only the second documented case of this type of cancer ever.  (I have always said she is one in a million.  Turns out she is one in 300 billion).  Two more abdominal surgeries.

Back to today.

So there I am, by myself, and a 2 hour drive away from my wife as she tells me about her conversation with the nurse.  We have both had enough experience with doctors to know that when they won't give you results over the phone and want to see you, it is not just another routine visit.  Something is wrong.

She tied to call and speak to the doctor directly, left several messages, but never heard back.

So now we wait.  Again.  We will try to stay positive over the next week and not go to the worst case scenario.  I thought we were done with this crap.
