Solidarity Challenge: Day 4

It's Over.

Whomever had Friday night at 8:00 PM as the time I would cave is the winner.  Here is how it went down.

We went to the Rays game with some friends tonight.   I have been to dozens of baseball games in my life, and never once have I watched a game without eating a hot dog.  How could I break a streak of 29 years?  And so it happened.  Just before the first pitch, I took a bite into my footlong hotdog (yes, it really was a foot long) and the rice and beans diet came to a tragic end.

In all seriousness though, we have our usual jam packed weekend ahead of us, and I thought I should eat something real before the rice and beans got the best of me.  This has really been a great experience.  I know for me personally, I have gained a much greater appreciation for what I have in life, food and beyond.  At the same time, the compassion I feel for the 100's of millions of people who survive on rice and beans on a daily basis out of necessity and not choice, has grown substantially.  If nothing else, I hope that by participating in this challenge, and documenting it here in this blog, perhaps some one else may gain that same compassion.
