It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas

Our house is finally decorated for Christmas. The tree is up and the lights are hung outside. This afternoon, my wife and I turned on the Christmas music and put everything up. It is a little late for us as we usually decorate the day after Thanksgiving, but it all up now.

I went low key this year with the outside lights. I skipped my usual adventure of navigating around the roof and hanging off the edge trying to hang lights. I stayed grounded this year and stuck with lights on the bushes and palm trees.

This really marks the beginning of the Christmas season for me. Especially living in Florida, it can be hard to get into the Christmas spirit without the cold Chicago weather that I grew up with. Once the lights and decoration are up however, that Christmas feeling begins.

Of course like so many other things, this year is different than most. This time of year, I am usually looking forward to watching our favorite Christmas movies, going to my wife's uncle's house on Christmas Eve and watching the Christmas boat parade and then going home to read "The Night Before Christmas" before going to bed. And of course, I still feel like a kid waking up Christmas morning and opening presents.

So far it has been difficult to focus on those things this year. The longer we wait for the call from the transplant center, the more we think about it. At this point, all I want for Christmas is to have my surgery and be able to wake up in my own bed next to my wife on Christmas morning. Nothing else matters. The longer we wait, the less likely that seems, but I am not giving up hope just yet.
