Today I continued to look back on this past weekend to try to figure out better where this mindless happiness came from, and thought of another contributing factor. This weekend, we went "unplugged". This meaning that we went the entire weekend and never turned on a computer, television or cell phone.
We both literarily and figuratively unplugged our lives. By literarily unplugging all of our dependance on these electronic devices, we were able to focus more on the now. If I may get philosophical for a moment, this also gave us a sensation of being unplugged from the world, in a good way. Without the external distractions of modern technology, we were able to really appreciate the time we had together and enjoy every minute of it. This unplugged weekend also included unplugging the car, so to speak. I parked my car at the beginning of the weekend and did not touch it, move it, drive it, even look at it until this morning. This might have been a mistake. When I did walk up to my car this morning, I was somewhat shocked and little worried. Apparently, when I parked my car at the beginning of the weekend, I parked it underneath a tree. Not just any tree tough. I am not a botanist so I am not sure of the scientific name of the tree, but for the sake of this blog, I will call it the "You-better-not-park-under-me-or-I-will-dump-so-much-crap-on-your-car-that-you-will-not-be able-to-recognize-it" tree. Below you will see the pictures of my car after I brushed all the debris off of it and there was still a layer of yellow residue covering the entire car. The other pictures are what my car looked like after a cycle of "The Works" car wash, which still did not get everything off. The last picture is of what the tree looks like now.
I have two recommendations for you.
1.) Try an "unplugged" weekend. It is refreshing and
rewarding.
2.) If you do an "unplugged" weekend, be sure to park your car in the garage.
