I was part of two very special events this weekend. Each one was special in it's own right, and each deserves it's own post. So I'll write about one here today and one tomorrow.
Today, my wife and I met with our small group from church and did something we are very proud of. Together we all put together 36 "homeless bags". Basically we took 36, large Ziploc bags and filled them with bottled water, non perishable food and snacks, and a hand written note from each of us. Each of us will now be sure that we carry these bags in our cars at all times. Whenever we are out driving around and come across a homeless person on the side of the road, we will give them one of these bags.
My wife and I have been doing this on our own for about 6 weeks and already given out at least 20 bags on our own. Although there are hundreds of homeless people, we have been going by the Starfish Philosophy. Knowing that we make a difference to one person is a good start. Now that there are an additional 12 cars driving around with these bags, that many more people will be helped. But why stop there?
It is quick, it is easy, and it is cheap to make these bags. The difference it can make to some one else is immeasurable. Start with one bag. See how it works. I bet you'll make more after giving it out.

Thanks to you & Melissa for sharing such a great idea with our group. I have the bags in my car & look forward to helping those in need by giving out these bags. I will post a comment once I give one out. Maybe tomorrow....
