I have mentioned a couple in Texas several times in this blog that have faced very similar challenges that my wife and I have. Their tale has taken an amazing twist lately however. More then a year ago, Geoff was told that his PSC has returned and that he would need a second liver transplant. While they were waiting, a tube was placed into his liver to drain the bile that was building up, and keep at least that area clear. Recently they were told that the tube was keeping his liver too healthy and he would not qualify for a transplant with the tube in due to some transplant regulation changes. With his kidney's already being stressed from all of this, Erin and Geoff made the very difficult decision to remove the tube. The thought was that they would then wait and watch as he got sick enough to qualify for the transplant. Horrible thing to have to go through, yet these are the decisions transplant patients face everyday.
Here is where the amazing part comes in. When the tube was removed, the strictures in the bile ducts that cause the liver to fail, were gone. The doctor removing the tube was amazed that he could find no visible strictures. His liver appeared healthy. Blood results confirmed these findings. Now two weeks later, after another blood test, the numbers are still as normal as they've been in a year. To hear the whole story from them, click

The doctors have no medical explanation for this. I think Erin said it best. This is a God Thing.
