Try It

One of the perks of staying at the Safety Harbor Resort and Spa is that guests can go to any of the fitness classes they offer for free. They offer a wide variety of classes from spinning to yoga to Kayalatis (Pilates followed by kayaking in the bay). Of course, I had to pass on all of those, but there was one class that seemed right up my alley. It was called Holistic Self Help. It is a mind-body-spirit exercise, based on the teachings of Qi Gong, that focused on the healing power of Self-touch (insert joke here). It was a short 20 minute session that combined visualization techniques and applying pressure to specific points on the body.
I am not sure that I can say that any healing went on, but it was a very relaxing exercise. For twenty minutes, we had to sit in a chair and completely clear our minds. This is something that in this day and age, most people rarely have time to do. Between Blackberrys, iPhones, and Twitter, it seems like we are constantly in contact with the world. I must say though, removing myself from all of that, even if just for 20 minutes, felt good. I left the class feeling refreshed and energized. I highly recommend it.
One day soon, find a time during the day when you are all alone in a quiet place. Turn on some soft music, close your eyes, and empty your mind. No thoughts about work, or the guy that cut you off while you were driving, or your ever growing list of to do's. Just breathe. You might be surprised. You might like it.
