So we are finally home and officially on the list.
At this point my MELD score puts me in a three way tie for second on the list. Of course, it is all dependent on the right blood type, and in my case they are looking for a young donor and the perfect size.
The plan at this point it to skip the colon surgery for now. The colorectal surgeons met with me on Monday before I was discharged and they made it very clear that they want nothing to do with me. In the condition my liver is in right now, another surgery would be too risky. They did say that they would be on call for my transplant to assist with the transplant surgery if necessary.
So the wait begins. I have a bag packed and ready to go at a moments notice. I am making sure that I have my phone on me at all times, because the call could com in at anytime.
In case you are wondering what one would pack in anticipation of a liver transplant, it is sort of like packing for vacation. A very boring vacation. So here is what is in the bag;
-Eye mask and ear plugs (a hospital is not a very good place to get rest. There is always a machine beeping, nurses talking and patients screaming. Just kidding.)
-160 GB video iPod filled with over 100 movies (I'll be there awhile and there is only so much on TV)
-Plenty of Books (Looking for recommendations as well)
- "Full Catastrophe Living" (Thanks Mol)
- "Frommers Puerto Rico Travel Guide" (Need to have something to look forward to)
- "Good Things Love Water: A collection of Surf Stories"
- "21 Laws of Leadership" by John Maxwell
- "Outward Bound Guide to Outdoor Leadership"
-Noise Canceling Headphones
-Magazines (Men's Health and Men's Journal)
-Laptop (have to keep up with the blog)
-Oh yeah, and some clothes too.
So all of this sits my the door awaiting "The Call"

It is so great that we can keep updated on how you are doing via this blog. I guess I can slow down on the excessive texts and emails now. Glad you are on the list now. I am sure the waiting is not easy, but as you said....God's timing is not always the same as our own. Have a wonderful Thanksgiving!
Like I say on myspace home page, you guys are my heroes. Meeting Melissa during Relay was such a benefit to my life. Thanks to you both, I've been able to resume my cruising vacations. I wish you both well. Thanks for sharing such personal stuff about your life with those of us that care. I love you guys, Irene
